ABOUT THE PROJECT

Verizon needed a roadmap to achieve corporate net zero goals across a large, diverse real estate portfolio while complying with regional regulations such as Local Law 97, BERDO, and BEPS. The company hired our building optimization team to develop an actionable plan to improve energy performance, reduce carbon emissions, and avoid millions in potential penalties.

OUR SOLUTION

We developed a building decarbonization strategy that connected existing operations with net-zero standards and Verizon’s long-term sustainability goals. Our team conducted detailed site surveys, analyzed utility and operational data, and established each property’s carbon and energy baseline.

Based on these findings, we delivered the following solutions:

• Modeled Energy Efficiency Measures (EEMs) to quantify potential savings in energy, emissions, and operating costs.
• Developed a multi-year action plan prioritizing repairs, maintenance, and capital improvements to achieve sustainability targets.
• Conducted retro-commissioning to optimize system performance and efficiency.
• Identified aged equipment replacement needs to enhance reliability and reduce downtime.
• Enhanced BMS automation and scheduling for improved system control and sequencing.
• Upgraded chillers and implemented heat recovery systems to lower energy consumption and emissions.
