20+ sitesevaluated or designed with integrated security and monitoring strategies
Up to 59 autonomous vehicle chargers at a single secured hub
8+ MW of electrical capacity supported at EV charging sites with centralized remote monitoring
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Our team partnered with a confidential autonomous vehicle infrastructure provider to support the development of secure Electric Vehicle (EV) charging and data hub facilities. These sites serve as controlled-access hubs where autonomous vehicles charge, upload operational data, and are monitored before returning to service. Because the facilities operate with minimal on-site staffing, security and access control were central to the client’s requirements. Many sites were also evaluated and designed quickly to meet fast rollout schedules, requiring scalable security solutions that could be replicated across future locations.
OUR SOLUTION
Our services included:
- Advising on site security strategies during early due diligence, including access control concepts and perimeter protection considerations for facilities with no on-site personnel.
- Designing electronic security systems to control site access for autonomous vehicles and authorized personnel, including RFID-based vehicle entry, automated gate controls, and monitored access points.
- Developing surveillance strategies using fixed and panoramic cameras mounted on canopies and site structures to provide full coverage of charging areas and perimeter zones.
- Integrating security cameras, access control, and intrusion detection into a unified monitoring framework tied to the client’s remote operations centers.
- Designing network pathways and low-voltage infrastructure to support security devices across large outdoor sites, including redundancy to maintain monitoring during outages.
- Supporting dual-network strategies to separate owner-controlled security systems from tenant or end-user systems when facilities were leased to third parties.
- Planning scalable security infrastructure that could accommodate future site expansion or new autonomous vehicle clients without reworking core systems.
THE IMPACT
Our work helped the client deploy autonomous vehicle hub facilities that operate with limited on-site staffing, protect valuable vehicles and data while maintaining real-time visibility across a growing national network.
