6 facilities evaluatedstatewide to identify priorities for infrastructure investments
500,000 sq. ft.of facility space assessed, all critical to Rhode Island Energy’s daily utility functions
300,000 sq. ft.of space in active design and construction, implementing high-efficiency MEP systems in support of sustainability goals

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Rhode Island Energy partnered with our team to modernize several inherited facilities after taking over operations from a previous utility provider. Many of these buildings serve critical operational functions and required comprehensive MEP upgrades to support fleet maintenance, equipment storage, emergency response, and administrative operations. The goal was clear: replace aging systems and improve reliability to create safer environments that better support field crews during storm events and service disruptions.

OUR SOLUTION

Across two phases, we performed infrastructure assessments and delivered full MEP/FP design services. Our work included:

  • Campus-wide mechanical and electrical infrastructure upgrades, replacing outdated systems with high-efficiency equipment to improve reliability and reduce long-term maintenance costs.
  • System reorganization, streamlining the campus’s electrical infrastructure to simplify operations and enable future scalability.
  • Designing modern MEP systems for critical areas such as garage facilities, tool and weld shops, and administrative areas, including an 11,000 sq. ft. auditorium suite.
  • Upgrading fire protection, fire alarm, lighting, and power systems to meet current codes and enhance safety.

THE IMPACT

The upgrades enabled Rhode Island Energy to safely occupy and operate its critical-use facilities and strengthen field operations so its teams can respond faster and more effectively during outages and emergencies.
