Vicor Corporation: A Project Profile

By Dan Moody

A MANUFACTURING FACILITY

Vicor has been a leader in high-performance power modules for over 40 years. They help clients in computing, automotive, industrial equipment, and aerospace and defense markets innovate. Our team is proud to have been part of supporting their clients.

Featured as Project of the Month in the New England Real Estate Journal (NEREJ), the project for Vicor included the MEP design of a new two-story building on the Northside of the 95,000 square foot facility in Andover, MA. In addition to this two-story building, our scope also included a new three-story south entry lobby, a boardroom, and conference room.

For the building addition, our team engineered all new MEP systems. Including:

      • New electric service
      • Domestic and fire protection water and sanitary services
      • All new HVAC systems (including rooftop units, processed air-cooled chilled, various process exhaust systems, and a new central compressed air system).

Vicor can better keep up with customer needs with this expansion because they successfully maximized equipment and expanded their overall manufacturing capacity. They also maximized process and product flow.

A fun fact about the facility: It is home to the world’s first Converter Housed in a Package fabrication facility (“ChiP fab”). A ChiP fab helps to set the standard for cost-effective and scalable high-volume manufacturing nationwide.
