For the east coast roll out of Verizon’s video hub office data centers (FTTP VHO), we were the prime consultant, responsible for the engineering design and project management of a large team of architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, and other consultants. The projects included both the design of new data centers as well as the expansion of existing facilities for each site.
Some of the important features of these FTTP VHO facilities that we designed and oversaw the development of include: a “bullpen” used for network monitoring, PLC controlled automatic tie switchgear, new generators ranging from 300 - 1.25 MW, new paralleled UPS systems in a 2N arrangement, dedicated computer room cooling (N+1), new electrical distribution including PDUs and static switches, bypass isolation automatic transfer switches, and pre-action sprinkler systems/fire alarm system including VESDA.
We were responsible for overseeing the team through planning board, zoning board, and the building department approvals processes. These projects each had strict budget and schedule parameters, which we were able to consistently meet. In addition, many of the projects had to be completed without interruption to existing mission critical telecommunications services within active facilities.
