4 campus buildingssupported, including Barker Hall, BAIR Lab, Tang Center, and the Valley Life Sciences Building
10+ major infrastructure assets replaced as systems reached end of useful life
100,000 sq. ft. of academic & research spaceupgraded across campus facilities
ABOUT THE PORTFOLIO
The University of California, Berkeley partnered with our team to support ongoing upgrades to critical campus infrastructure across multiple academic and research facilities. In addition to maintaining reliable building systems in continuously occupied buildings, UC Berkeley’s priorities included advancing long-term sustainability goals. Many of the projects involved replacing end-of-life equipment in buildings that remain active year-round, requiring careful planning and implementation.
OUR SOLUTION
We have provided engineering services across a range of campus infrastructure projects, including:
- Designing replacements for aging mechanical and electrical systems, including generators, automatic transfer switches, heat exchangers, and air handling units.
- Supporting upgrades in science, research, and health-related buildings, where ventilation reliability and system performance are critical to ongoing academic and laboratory activities.
- Performing feasibility and load studies to assess future power and cooling demands and inform longer-term infrastructure planning.
- Coordinating closely with campus facilities and engineering leadership to phase work around academic schedules and continuous building use.
- Applying quality assurance oversight to ensure our design considers UC Berkeley’s sustainability objectives yet remains practical within project budgets and schedules.
- Designing systems to meet California Title 24 requirements and support the university’s broader clean energy and carbon reduction initiatives.
THE IMPACT
Through careful sequencing and parallel project delivery, our work has helped UC Berkeley upgrade critical facilities without extended shutdowns, supporting uninterrupted research, teaching, healthcare services, and campus operations throughout the year.
