117,000 sq. ft. renovated across four occupied office floors
1 primary MDF room reconfigured and upgraded
8+ IDF rooms relocated or reworked while maintaining live connectivity
24/7 supplemental cooling designed for IT and trading environments
ABOUT THE PROJECT
A confidential investment firm worked with our team on a renovation of its headquarters within a high-rise tower in Boston. The project consolidated and refreshed four non-consecutive, occupied floors into a cohesive, high-end workplace designed to support trading operations and continuous business activity. A primary driver was updating all floors simultaneously to create a consistent look and implement properly designed infrastructure that improves IT reliability and supports the firm’s current operational demands.
OUR SOLUTION
We provided MEP/FP/FA, security, and IT consulting and engineering services, including:
- Reconfiguring the primary Main Distribution Frame (MDF) room to better integrate with updated floor layouts while maintaining continuous network connectivity for the entirety of the four floors.
- Consolidating adjacent Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) equipment into the MDF to support higher equipment density while using less real estate.
- Relocating and reconfiguring IDF rooms across multiple floors, including extending and rerouting existing cabling to new locations without service interruptions.
- Designing supplemental 24/7 cooling solutions for MDF, IDF, and trading areas to support continuous operations, prevent overheating, and reduce the risk of equipment shutdown.
- Supporting phased construction sequencing that allowed IT systems to remain live as individual zones and floors were renovated.
- Coordinating with the architect and construction team to ensure IT infrastructure aligned with architectural design intent and operational constraints.
- Redesigning power distribution to each MDF and IDF room that provided redundancy and reliability, feeding multiple Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units supported by separate electrical rooms and bus risers.
THE IMPACT
Our approach provided the client with renovated spaces that support temperature-controlled IT environments and a consistent technology framework across all floors that reinforce the firm’s long-term workplace and technology strategy.
