A technical background

I studied geology at the University of Texas. After graduation I was working as an engineer for an environmental consulting firm, but not really loving the work.  When the firm’s BD person left, they asked me to fill in “temporarily.”  That turned into a full time job and a completely new career path for me.

Two ears, one mouth

I hate to disclose my trade secrets, but I’ve found that success in business development means really listening to clients more than telling them about how we can solve their problems. And after I understand what is most important to a client, I work with our technical staff to make sure that we all understand what they want.

Around the Table

For the past four years, three colleagues and I have been organizing a professional round table networking group. We invite 25 different people to come each month. We introduce everyone to the group and then have time for individual networking. It has been a great success.  We even had a quartet form after they met each other at one of our meetings.

Good Energy

I love meeting people. I try to meet as many as I can. You never know where business may come from. Business development is really about connecting people and being genuine. People remember that.

Sports Fanatic

Off the top of my head? My favorites are football, golf, water sports, skiing, billiards, shuffle board, board games. I love all sports. Right now I’m working on my golf game. I am determined to be good – not good, great – and I won’t stop until I get there.
