My career started with the British Army (Royal Engineers)…

I started as an installer, moved up to a designer and finally as manager of technical engineering installations in support of military operations throughout the world – including the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Canada, and even Antarctica. The best lesson that it taught me – which I still use every day – was the ability to think on my feet and come up with quick practical solutions in demanding situations.

My certifications.

While in the army, I did facilities management and design for secure critical facilities. I enjoyed it. When I moved to the US, I wanted to continue to work on critical facilities. I decided to get my Certified Data Center Design Professional (CDCDP) certification as a way to stay current with design trends. I also decided to get my Data Center Energy Practitioner (DCEP) certification. Energy efficiency is a major component of data center design and I wanted to be current with best practices.

A favorite project.

I’m always looking for the next project to add to my list of favorites. On the list is the design of a ground-up 180,000 sq. ft. broadcast /business operations facility with a data center served by redundant MEP infrastructure and all new dedicated utility services. This project included construction of the new building on the existing facility site and repurposing the existing building. The client was adamant from the beginning – we couldn’t have any downtime while transitioning to the new facility. My ability to think on my feet came in handy.

What I love about working with the junior engineers.

Mentoring is a two way street. I can help the junior staff by sharing lessons learned from my 25+ years in the business. And I’m also learning from them because the world of engineering changes fast.

On rugby.

I’m originally from the town of Rugby, England. I’ve played rugby all my life. And I’m a huge fan. It’s in my blood.

Principals

Our founders. Our leaders. The visionaries. The people who take the final ownership for our work. David, Vinny, Peter, Peter, Mike, Tom and Craig have a great balance of experience and ideas. They are Improving The Way Things Are Done everyday, and making sure that we do, too.
