Meet the WB team
Bart Stewart, PE, LEED AP
MY FAVORITE KIND OF WORK…
Data centers and forensic projects. The similarity between these two project types is that in order to figure out the issue, you have to dissect the system and fundamentally understand how it works. That “aha” moment –when you figure out what exactly is going on – is really satisfying.
MY BIGGEST PIECE OF ADVICE…
Seemingly obvious…always have a pen and paper handy when you ask a question! In our line of work, most answers will be complex and you never know what little piece of information will wind up being a critical component. The best way to learn and become a better engineer is to take notes.
I started my career working for a small firm that was acquired by Hewlett-Packard shortly after. I realized that working for the large firm wasn’t the best match for my skillset and professional development. It didn’t take long joining WB, to know that was (and still is!) the right fit. I get to work on a variety of project types with a wide range of clients and have exposure to different systems (both old and new). Plus the team here is great.
“THIS IS A GREAT ENGINEERING REPORT, BUT THIS IS USELESS”
Hearing this feedback from my boss was quite a shock, but one of the most helpful critiques of my work. Most engineering reports are too filled with engineering jargon to really be useful to most readers. And while an 80 page technical report can be necessary, our clients want to pick up that report read the first few pages and have a full understanding of what is wrong with their system, how we’re going to fix it, how long it will take, and how much it will cost. I’ve learned to spend a lot of time on the executive summary – and it is always time well spent.
AFTER THE 9-5…
I love wine and food tasting with my wife.
Our founders. Our leaders. The visionaries. The people who take the final ownership for our work. David, Vinny, Peter, Peter, Mike, Tom and Craig have a great balance of experience and ideas. They are Improving The Way Things Are Done everyday, and making sure that we do, too.
