Verizon, FTTP

Rolling out Verizon’s FTTP Video Hub Office (VHO) Data Center initiative

Working on the roll-out of multiple facilities in multiple locations is complicated work, but we love complicated projects. When Verizon decided to move to fiber, we helped make IT Happen for them in the Northeast. We were responsible for the engineering as well as managing a large team of architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, and other consultants.

The features of the data centers included: “Bullpen” used for network monitoring; PLC controlled automatic tie switchgear; new generators ranging from 300 - 1.25 MW; new paralleled UPS systems in a 2N arrangement; dedicated computer room cooling (N+1); new electrical distribution including PDUs and Static Switches; bypass isolation automatic transfer switches; and pre-action sprinkler systems / Fire alarm system including VESDA

We led the team through planning board, zoning board, and the building department approvals processes. Our team also commissioned the MEP systems to ensure that they would operate as designed.

One final complicating factor of these projects was that many of the sites had to be upgraded without interruption to existing mission critical telecommunications services in active facilities. With careful planning and thoughtful project management, we kept those facilities active without any downtime.
