Adding a sprinkler system to an existing building for Local Law #26 compliance

Passed in 2004, Local Law #26 (LL26) was an amendment to New York City Building Code Local Law 5/73, requiring that office buildings over 100 ft. in height be fully sprinklered by July 1, 2019.  Not wanting to wait until the deadline, Verizon hired WB to evaluate the existing infrastructure and design a new sprinkler system for the building.

Our first step in the project was to complete a field survey and prepare a presentation of the existing conditions for the New York Fire Department. We then defined the scope of work, prepared engineering drawings, and coordinated with Verizon to establish the best implementation strategy.

Verizon’s goals for the project were to comply with LL26 and do so with minimal disruption to the building’s operations. WB helped them accomplish both.
