Tiffany & Co. Lab Space

Engineering for a lab space for jewelry design and testing

When many of us think about Tiffany & Co., we think about the fancy jewelry in the display cases in the store. Before the jewelry ever makes it to a case, there is a lot of testing that is done, and for that testing Tiffany needs laboratory space.

For this project, we worked with Tiffany to double the size of their lab in Parsippany.

The mechanical requirements for the project were very specific, because of the fume requirements. We modified the existing duct distribution system to serve the renovated and expanded lab, including providing new supply and exhaust ductwork. We also designed new fume hood exhaust fans and exhaust ductwork.

Deciding what to do with the existing air conditioning unit was a question from the beginning of the project. We analyzed the system in order to make a recommendation about the financial impact of replacing the unit with a new larger unit to serve the entire lab or use the existing unit and add a new AC unit sized for the new expansion.
